The Forgotten Ship

4/16/2018

I crossed paths with a spirit from a mystical shore

Which had majestic hooves, but with the face of a man,

Said, in a deep, rumbling voice: “A sunken ship, retired from its glory,

with a broken, stone mermaid at the head,

Frozen in place, by its lonesome, mouth open, ready to call out,

To shout out in rage, about the ship’s former prestige and honour,

And to call out it’s captain’s name, for she knows not where he ventured.

The words, stuck in her throat, who will find no escape,

Influence rage in her expression, in her flawless stone face.

Near the bottom of the ship, engraved words appear:

‘Behold this magnificent ship held before ye plain eyes, the greatest treasure gold can buy!

Tremble in fear, ye simple commoner, and beware of the vicious pirates who will steal your last waking breath!’

But besides that command, and the destroyed, shriveled remains,

Nothing but the lingering threat, the angry expression, and the frozen, menacing growl of the statue remains.

And so, the disfigured ship is forever stranded at the bottom of the lifeless sea.”
